Welcome to SDS Clinical Trials’ website for adults ages 18 to 64 who have Type 1 narcolepsy with cataplexy and who may be interested in participating in a research study.

Right now, SDS Clinical Trials is conducting a medical research study for people living with Type 1 narcolepsy with cataplexy. If you have this condition, please continue reading to see if participating in our study might be an option for you.

Research Study for Adults 18 to 64 Years Old with Type 1 Narcolepsy with Cataplexy

According to the National Institutes of Health, narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that affects the brain’s ability to control sleep-wake cycles. People with narcolepsy may unwillingly fall asleep even in the middle of an activity like driving, eating, or talking. If left untreated, narcolepsy can interfere with psychological, social, and cognitive function and development, and can affect school, work, and social activities.

A common feature of narcolepsy is cataplexy. Cataplexy is a sudden loss of muscle tone in response to a strong emotion (such as laughing, surprise, or anger). These episodes of muscle weakness can cause an affected person to slump over or fall. Most people diagnosed with narcolepsy have cataplexy. However, some do not, which has led researchers to distinguish two major types of narcolepsy: with and without cataplexy. This research study is for people with narcolepsy with cataplexy.

Because narcolepsy has such a large impact on the lives of those who have it, finding new and effective treatments through medical research is very important. Medical research is required before new medications can be approved for use, and such research would not be possible without volunteer study participants.

Please contact us about participating if you meet the following criteria:

* You are 18 to 64 years of age

* You have Type 1 narcolepsy with cataplexy

This is not a complete list of requirements for participation. If you provide us with your contact information, we will promptly reach out to provide you with more information about our research study.

Compensation

Participants who satisfy applicable requirements will be compensated for participation. The amount of compensation available and the applicable requirements will be discussed by the staff at the research center.

What should I do now?

If you are interested in participating or just wish to learn more, please provide your contact information. We will contact you within two business days after your submission.

Research

Doctors and scientists are constantly discovering new medications and devices that may help prevent, detect, diagnose, control, and treat illnesses. A clinical trial or research study is a scientific study that tests these new discoveries. Research studies depend upon the participation of volunteers.

Why Participate?

There is no guarantee that subjects will receive any benefit from participating in this study. However, this research study may yield new information that could benefit people in the future by helping to answer questions about the effectiveness and safety of the investigational medication.

Voluntary Participation and Informed Consent

Participation in a research study is completely voluntary. In all research studies, qualified potential participants are first informed about the research study in detail. After receiving this information, all participants must give their consent in writing to proceed. Some research studies involve more tests and doctor visits than the participant would normally have for an illness or condition.

Health Insurance and Participation Costs

Health Insurance is NOT required to participate.

You will not be charged for the investigational medication, study-related procedures and tests, or study visits.

Can I Participate in a Research Study?

Before participating in a research study, volunteers must meet specific requirements. These requirements are based on various factors, such as age, medical history, current health status, current medications, and allergies. The circumstances that allow a person to participate are called Inclusion Criteria and those that prevent participation are called Exclusion Criteria. These requirements are used to ensure the accuracy of the study as well as the safety of all participants. We will not know whether you satisfy all study requirements until we speak with you and, if appropriate, complete a screening assessment at our facilities.
